| Students who have applied
for financial aid and have been offered a Federal Perkins
Loan may need to complete the Federal Perkins Loan
Application. If you have been offered a Perkins Loan, please
read the following instructions carefully in order to determine
if it is necessary for you to complete an application.
First-time Borrowers
If you have not previously borrowed from the Federal Perkins
Loan Program, you will need to complete the Perkins Loan Application. You
will also need to complete a Perkins Loan Entrance Interview and a Master Promissory Note (MPN).
You will be sent instructions on how to complete all three of these items once you have indicated to our office that you wish to borrow from the Perkins Loan Program.
Previous Borrowers
If you have previously borrowed from the Federal Perkins
Loan Program but did not borrow a Perkins during
the prior academic year, you will need to complete a new
Perkins Loan Application and Master Promissory Note.
For instance, if you
have been offered a Perkins Loan for 2008-09 but you did
not borrow a Perkins during the 2007-08 academic year,
you will need to complete a new Perkins Loan Application.
If you are not sure if you borrowed a Perkins during the
prior academic year, you can check your account on CAESAR.
If you did borrow from the Federal Perkins Loan Program
during the prior academic year, you do not need to complete
another Perkins Loan Application or Master Promissory Note.
Simply notify the Office of Financial Aid that you accept the Perkins Loan offered to you by signing and returning your award notice. We will process your Perkins
Loan in the full amount offered unless you indicate that you wish to borrow less.
If you are uncertain as to which of the above categories
you belong, please check your Financial Aid "To Do"
Items on CAESAR.
Here you will be able to see if you are required to complete
a Perkins Loan Application, a Perkins MPN or a Perkins Loan
Entrance Interview.
If you have not applied for need-based financial aid you
must do so in order to be considered for the Federal Perkins
Loan. See the section on Applying
for Financial Aid - Application Procedures & Deadlines
for more information.
